DRT follows current genealogical standards when submitting proofs for applications. All dates since the inception of vital records (since 1903 in Texas) require copies of birth and death certificates and marriage licenses. Dates in earlier generations may be approximated from census records, wills, tax rolls, obituaries, tombstones, deeds, probate (or succession) records, guardianships, church records, newspaper articles, pensions, 1867 voter registration certificates, ship’s lists, Bible records, etc.

DRT also provides record searches and paper copies of applications and proofs of active, deceased, and resigned members for a nominal fee. If the member has requested her application to not be shared or if the application has been closed, paper copies of applications and proofs will not be provided. The first three generations may be redacted to protect the private information of the living and to be in compliance with Texas laws. Copies of birth or death certificates are also not provided.
